Jamaican Jerk Sliders

Jamaican Jerk Sliders

These juicy Jamaican Jerk Sliders are fiery and full of flavor. It’s packed with jerk spices and a jerk marinade then grilled until medium well. Perfect for a summer backyard BBQ! The scotch bonnet really gives this recipe the heat it needs as well as flavor, but can be replaced with a habanero pepper. If you prefer a mild version, omit the hot pepper, the pepper flakes from the jerk spice will give it a slight spicy flavor. When putting together the jerk spices, some of it you don’t HAVE to add but I find a mixture of all really amps up the flavor. Main spices are the ground allspice (pimentos berries), thyme, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, salt and garlic.

Jerk Spice

Mix all of the spices below together and store in a jar. Add or take away to fit your liking.

  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground all spice
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground clove
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl mix soy sauce, brown sugar, orange juice, chopped onion, grated garlic, chopped scallion, thyme leaves, water, chopped scotch bonnet (please use gloves), black pepper and 3 tsp jerk spice. Mix well until sugar is dissolved, being careful with the hot pepper.
  2. Add ground beef to mixture and mix just to combine. Do not over work. Store in refrigerator to soak in all the flavors for a couple hours or at least 30 minutes. Overnight is even better.
  3. When ready to grill, make 6 even patties. The total meat mixture will weigh around 18-19 oz, I use my food scale to measure equally.
  4. Heat grill on high and grill for about 4 minutes on each side or until burgers measure 150-155 degrees for medium well. Cooking time varies depending on how you like your burger.
