Notes:
- The best way to avoid a dry meatloaf (or any meat for that matter) in my opinion is to use a meat thermomter to check for doneness. This Lean Turkey Meatloaf should read 165 degrees when it is done.
- In some recipes, milk is added to the breadcrumbs for moisture, in this recipe I felt it was not needed but feel free to give it a try!
- If you have picky eaters or just do not like the texture of chopped onions, grate it in or omit the fresh onion and just use the onion powder.
- Generally a meatloaf glaze is made for the top, we prefer plain ole ketchup or BBQ sauce.
- Towards the last 15 minutes or so of baking you want to remove the fat from the top by scooping it off with a spoon.
- Using a loaf pan helps lock the moisture in, especially in a recipe like this where we are using lean turkey that can dry out fast.
- Let the loaf cool for about 10 minutes before removing from the pan and slicing
- Finally, if you are counting calories and smart-points and did decide to change ingredients or the amount used, recalculate for accuracy.
