Baked Green Plantain Chips

These Baked Green Plantain Chips makes a great snack. Crunchy, salty and lower in calories than store-bought. These can also be made using yellow plantains for a more sweeter taste. Plantains are good sources of potassium, magnesium, vitamin A and vitamin K.

On WW (formerly Weight watchers) purple plan, they are 0 smartpoints per serving and 3 smartpoints on blue and green plans. Baking these lower the calories and smartpoints rather than deep-frying.

You can make different flavors by adding chili powder, lime, red pepper flakes, cinnamon etc. It is best to serve these a couple minutes after coming out of the oven to keep its crispiness.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium to large green plantain
  • 3/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 3/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Pam spray

Method

Set oven to preheat on 400 degrees. Peel and slice green plantain about 1/8 inch thick using a mandolin.
Thin slices
Place on parchment paper and both sides with salt and garlic powder. Spray chips with pam spray. Bake in the oven for about 17 minutes or until it starts turning light brown on the edges. Cool for 5 minutes and serve right away.

  • 1 medium-large green plantain
  • 3/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 3/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Pam spray
Directions
  • Step 1 Set oven to 400 degrees
  • Step 2 Peel and slice plantain using a mandolin, about 1/8 inch slices.
  • Step 3 Place slices on a large baking sheet without overlapping.
  • Step 4 Season both sides with salt and garlic powder.
  • Step 5 Bake for 17 minutes or until edges starts turning light brown. Cool for 5 minutes and serve right away.
