Tandoori is a popular Indian dish. It is traditionally marinated in different spices and yogurt, then bake in a tandoor oven (clay oven). The key is to let it marinate overnight and if you’re in a hurry, 2-3 hours at least. I used chicken breast for these kebabs making 10 servings as we want them perfectly portioned, then put them on the grill for a short amount of time. Pretty easy and SO good! Zero smartpoints per serving on blue and purple plan, 2 smartpoints on green and 159 calories. Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 2 lbs chicken breast, cut in bite size pieces (about 50 pieces)
- 1/2 cup plain non fat yogurt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- cilantro, recao, culantro or shado beni for garnish (optional)
- 2 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2-3 drops red food coloring
- 2-3 drops yellow food coloring
Directions
- Place chicken pieces in a large Tupperware or zip lock and add yogurt, lemon juice, garam masala, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, ground ginger, turmeric powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, red and yellow coloring. Mix well. Store in refrigerator over night or at least 2-3 hours.
- Once marinated well, start filling skewers with about 5 pieces of chicken per skewer.
3. Grill for 4-5 minutes on each side or until meat thermometer reads 165 degrees. Serve with Naan, rice or salad and your favorite yogurt sauce.
